Memorial service for slain rapper Bigidagoe draws hundreds in Amsterdam-Zuidoest

The memorial service is being held in Amsterdam-Zuidoost for the shot dead rapper Danzel Silos, known as Bigidagoe. More than 200 people are present in and around the funeral home. Dozens of people stand outside Amsterdam Bijlmer Arena and watch the ceremony via a live stream on a large screen. According to the funeral director, thousands of people follow the funeral in this way.

The 26-year-old Amsterdam resident was shot last weekend after a party near Sloterdijk station and later died of his injuries. The suspected gunman was arrested at an airport in Paris on Wednesday. According to the police, this 20-year-old Amsterdam resident was about to leave for French Guiana.

Silos was part of the controversial rap formation Zone 6. After his death, explosions occurred at several locations in Amsterdam that the police linked to his death. That is why extra police are present at the funeral as a precaution. The mobile unit is standing by nearby, although it is quiet at the moment.

The rapper has previously been involved in various criminal acts. In 2021, Bigidagoe was shot, probably due to a conflict with another rap group. Shortly afterwards, his mother’s house was shot at. Later that year, the rapper was arrested for possession of a firearm.

One of the explosions hit homes, forcing residents to temporarily leave their homes. They are now staying in a hotel. Mayor Halsema visited these families and responded to the explosions on AT5: “This includes a family with very small children. People who carry out these explosions do not seem to realize that a child could have been murdered here. That is what you have on your conscience.”

Prayers

Bigidagoe’s family has opted for an open casket. Prayers were also said for the rapper. “If only we could turn back time and protect you from evil. Now I no longer have to be afraid of being shocked when my phone rings. This is every mother’s nightmare, and mine has become reality,” said his mother in tears.

Silos will be buried this afternoon in Westgaarde Memorial Park in Amsterdam.
