According to the National Commission for the Continuous Improvement of Education (Mejoredu) in 2021 and the national association Educación con Rumbo, 83 percent of personnel with managerial functions in Mexican schools consider the tools provided by the Ministry of Public Education to be insufficient (SEP) to carry out teaching work and also point out that they need more training to use digital systems that favor the continuation of distance education in the next school cycles.

After analyzing that the education systems under a hybrid model indicated that they should be preserved in most schools in Mexico for reasons of the covid-19 pandemic and updating of the educational model.

In addition, the Mejoradu study also determined that the administrative staff of institutions, as well as teachers need more training so that education has quality in each of the levels in order to compensate for the lags in the students, since one of the main reasons that did not allow a transmission of knowledge during the online classes, was the lack of knowledge of the use of technologies in teachers to implement dynamic strategies and motivate students to study.

Public schools, the furthest behind

In this regard, Guadalupe García, a researcher in education at the Autonomous University of the State of Mexico (UAEMex), said that private schools are the ones that have the greatest possibilities of carrying out a distance teaching exercise, however, public schools, especially those of basic education, continue with a high lag in the knowledge of the use of technologies and the implementation of connection tools to carry out quality virtual education.

Considering that the infections of covid-19, as well as other viruses such as hepatitis in minors, which continue to be points of attention and alarm in schools in the State of Mexico, he said, it should be considered paramount not to neglect online education, to safeguard the integrity of both the teacher and the student.

“You can not forget the use of technologies”

He added that the SEP has focused its energies on ensuring that school enrollment is 100 percent, but has left aside the reinforcement of teaching strategies and skills so that the educational system is flexible and students do not lose their academic rhythm.

“Having a rebound in covid-19 cases and knowing that almost 90 percent of preschool and primary school enrollment in the entity does not have a vaccine, the use of technologies cannot be forgotten.”
