medicine helps corona patient with oxygen starvation

In the follow-up study, ten Dutch hospitals will administer the drug lanadelumab to patients. This drug “inhibits the activation of the entire system that causes the leakage of the blood vessels”, explains internist Frank van de Veerdonk.

The results of the small study with icatibant have been published in JAMA Network Open. All of the patients who participated were severely deprived of oxygen due to fluid in their lungs. They received icatibant subcutaneous injections every six hours three times. A patient in intensive care was allowed to leave it 24 hours after treatment and was home for a week afterwards. The other subjects were nursed in the Internal Medicine department. Eight of the nine required less oxygen after 24 hours, the ninth after 38 hours.
