NEXT HOURS, the Mediterranean cyclone could soon become a MEDICANEThe Mediterranean cyclone which for a few days has been literally scrambling some areas of the South such as Sicily and part of the Calabria, has turned into a real one Medicane, a kind of Category 1 hurricane so to speak. For those who do not know the term Medicane comes from the bizarre combination of English words MEDIterranean hurriCANE that is to say “Mediterranean hurricane “. It is an event capable of unleashing heavy rains often alluvial accompanied by strong winds capable of reaching intensity up to 120-130km/h.
Having made this necessary premise, let’s see what will happen in the next few hours on the meteorological front, but above all which will be the regions most at risk according to the latest updates of our Official app.
Currently the engine center of the cyclonic vortex it is located further south-east of Sicily. We find it in fact in the open sea on thesouthernmost area of the Mediterranean and to be precise just east of Malta. For this reason the meteorological picture was decidedly drier and quieter in this first part of the morning both on Sicily and Calabria.
Some rains, on the other hand, are still in progress on the easternmost part of the Sardinia disturbed in turn by another low pressure vortex also located in the open sea but between our island and the Balearics.
On the rest of the country, on the other hand, everything is silent in a decidedly stable atmospheric context except for some scattered clouds of a high and thin type at Northwest and on the side central Tyrrhenian.
There are therefore all the characteristics to experience a second part of the morning but also the rest of the day in the name of rains limited to Sardinia especially on the easternmost area where they could also be of strong intensity and with local storms in the province of Nuoro.
Al South we will still have many clouds on the southernmost sectors of the Sicily and of Calabria but the risk of rain it will remain decidedly low, while evident atmospheric stability will continue to dominate the rest of the country.
Something will change instead in the second part of the day when the medicane in the phase of further study, a slow ascent to the north will begin.
After a afternoon still highly unstable on the Sardinia still with the possibility of storms along the eastern coasts, here is that between the evening and night menacing clouds laden with rain they will advance towards the eastern and southernmost area of the Sicily, this is a prelude to a new and intense one worsening expected for the days of Friday e Saturday when the risk of storms and events alluvial.
