Medical reasons Diabetics are often hungry

CANTIKA.COM, Jakarta – Often feeling hungry is one of the challenges faced diabetics. It turns out that craving is related to neurotransmitters in the brain. This was revealed by the Endocrinologist Consultant, Dr. dott. Fatimah Eliana Taufik in a health webinar on Thursday 10 November 2022.

“The brain produces neurotransmitters that cause hunger and satiety,” said the doctor who is familiarly called Eliana.

Diabetes it disrupts neurotransmitters, chemical compounds that carry messages between nerve cells, so that patients are easily hungry and have difficulty feeling full.

To remedy this, Eliana suggested that diabetic patients control their emotions so that they do not go crazy while eating and taking medicines according to the doctor’s prescription so that diabetes can be controlled.

Eliana said there are drugs that can make a person gain weight. Therefore, consult a doctor to get a drug suitable for your physical condition. A drug suitable for one patient may not necessarily be suitable for another, she stressed.

Diabetes cannot be cured so far, but it can be well controlled even without medication if a person lives a good lifestyle. Most of the causes of diabetes are an unhealthy lifestyle, other factors are genetics, infections and medications.

Eliana advised that the first step when claiming to have diabetes is to change your behavior and adopt a healthy lifestyle. Diet regulation and regular exercise are key.

When blood sugar is checked, it doesn’t mean that someone is free from diabetes mellitus. Lifestyle must remain regulated. At a young age, setting up a healthy lifestyle can be accompanied without drugs. However, there are also diabetic patients who have to take medications for life due to various factors, including age.

Until now, people with diabetes in Indonesia continue to increase, also this year this incurable disease is ranked fifth in the world according to the International Diabetes Federation (IDF). Statistics show that 1 in 11 adults in Indonesia between the ages of 20 and 79 are a person with diabetes and it is expected to continue to increase.
