It is a unique partnership in Switzerland which is born: the Geneva television “Léman Bleu” will henceforth have the right to broadcast co-productions of Radio Television Suisse (RTS). A diffusion agreement (DIF), under the impulse of the association “Function: cinema“, Has just been concluded and presented this Thursday to producers.

What is this agreement about? The films, “essentially documentaries,” said the press release, will be bought by Léman Bleu. Geneva television will thus be able to broadcast them “once only on its antenna” in a two-week window following the broadcast on RTS. Whereas until now, the public service retained exclusive broadcasting rights for 7 years. The regional channel will also have to commit to promoting this content.

A first in Switzerland

This partnership should make it possible to disseminate indigenous production more widely in French-speaking households and to offer greater exposure to producers. Whether on traditional broadcast channels or digital. In the latter area, the creation of a VOD or “video on demand” platform is announced this fall by SSR.

As the authors of the project recall, this agreement would be “a first” in Switzerland. A model, they say, which could also be extended to other regional televisions in French-speaking Switzerland as well as in German-speaking Switzerland and in Ticino.
