Medellín adjusts four days without booster doses of vaccines against covid-19

In addition to an ICU occupation and hospitalization close to 100%, in Medellín there is a shortage of third doses or booster doses of all biologicals, according to local health authorities. It’s already been four days without booster shots in the city.

This Monday, January 24, 84,723 first doses are available to start schemes and 74,305 second doses, with two exceptions: there are no first doses of Moderna or any of AstraZeneca.

Even so, several points remain enabled in the municipality to provide citizens with the doses that are available. At the same time, the Ministry of Health of Medellín advances in the administrative procedures with the Government of Antioquia and this, in turn, with the Ministry of Health, so that the necessary biologicals reach the municipality, reported Milena Lopera, undersecretary of Public Health.

According to the information, in the city there are single doses of Janssen for people over 18 years of age; first and second doses of Sinovac for children 3 to 11 years of age and second doses for those over 18 years of age; and second doses of Moderna for ages 12 and older. In addition, there are first and second doses of Pfizer for pregnant and postpartum women up to the first 40 days, first doses for children 12 to 17 years old, and second doses for people older than 12 years.

Massive vaccination points can be consulted on the social networks of the Medellin Mayor’s Office, including intermediate units from different communes, shopping malls, Metro stations and Comfama headquarters, among others.

To the date, in the capital of Antioquia, 4,193,112 applied doses have been applied, of which 1,934,345 are first, 1,538,835 second, 372,875 booster doses and 347,057 single doses. For now, 1,885,892 inhabitants of the city have their complete scheme.

Health authorities reiterated the importance of getting vaccinated, since a large percentage of people who are hospitalized and in the ICU for covid-19 have not done so. According to the Personería de Medellín, 65% of patients in intensive care for covid have not started the vaccination scheme, while 55% of those hospitalized for coronavirus have not received any doses either.
