The state funeral of former Prime Minister Abe will be held on the 27th. When MBC asked all 43 municipalities in the prefecture for their answer, it emerged that 46% of municipalities raise the flag at half mast in government buildings.

In response to the MBC interview, a total of 20 municipalities, including 8 cities, 10 towns and 2 villages, replied that they would raise the flag at half mast on the 27th.

Ichikikushikino City, Makurazaki City, Minamisatsuma City,

Minamikyushu City, Satsumasendai City, Satsuma City,

Akune City, Kirishima City, Kimotsuki City,

Mishima Village, Minamitane City, Yakushima City,

Amami City, Uken Village, Tatsugo City, Tokunoshima City,

Amagi Town, Isen Town, Wadomari Town, China Town

46% of the 43 municipalities of the prefecture were divided into different responses. None of the local governments asked for a moment of silence from their staff or residents, and simply responded by raising flags at half mast in government buildings and branches.

Municipalities with flags at half mast cited reasons such as “following the prefecture’s response”, “because it is a national event” and “taking into account the achievements of former Prime Minister Abe”.

On the other hand, the following 23 municipalities replied that they would not respond to the state funeral.

Kagoshima City, Aira City, Hioki City,

Ibusuki City, Izumi City, Nagashima City,

Isa Town, Yusui Town, Higashikushira Town,

Kanoya City, Tarumizu City, Soo City,

Shibushi Town, Osaki Town, Kinko Town,

Minamiosumi City, Nishinoomote City, Nakatane City,

Toshima Village, Yamato Village, Setouchi City,

Kikai City, Yoron City

Most of them cited the fact that “there was no demand from national governments or prefectures”.

Also, when we asked the education councils of each municipality what their answers were, most replied that they had no intention of answering.

Uken Village is the only village that raises flags at half mast and the school building board also raises flags at half mast.

In addition, there were two mayors who attended the state funeral, but the cost of attendance will not be borne by the city or municipality budget, but will be borne by the association of mayors and the association of municipalities.

Teruo Honbo, mayor of the city of Minamisatsuma, is the president of the Association of Mayors of the prefecture.

Tokunoshima City Mayor Hideki Takaoka will be present as president of the Prefectural Town and Village Association
