Mazzetti: The number of deaths from COVID-19 in Peru would be 47,000 “at most”

The Minister of Health, Pilar Mazzetti, indicated this Sunday that 47,000 people would have died from the new coronavirus, at the most, at the national level, if the figures used by the National Information System of Deaths (Sinadef).

As he explained, the figures shown by Sinadef are the most serious when it comes to calculating the medicines or hospital response that they must provide and That is why that is the one that Minsa has as a reference.

“The Sinadef figure is increasing day by day and at this moment it is 47,000, tomorrow it will be 47,500 and it will go up. I prefer to take the most important figure, ours is for calculations and things like that, but I prefer to take the (from Sinadef) when I have to calculate how much ivermectin, how many UCIS, when I have to calculate a series of things, I prefer to use the most serious figure”, Said in Canal N.

Regarding the gap that exists, the head of the Health sector indicated that they do their best to record the numbers that the disease is leaving. However, there are up to four official alternate records that show different figures.

In that sense, he maintained that there is a working group that is in charge of reviewing the figures to update them, although he admitted that it is a complex job. Added that this work is usually done at the end of the health emergency, but that here it began earlier at the request of President Martín Vizcarra.

“We have advanced. What other countries do, this difference that we have here in Sinadef, after the pandemic the epidemic is over, whatever it is, a death analysis team is formed and they have to see all the cases, one by one, analyze and see if it really corresponds or not ”, He declared.
