Mazda has released images and details with the new CX-60

Mazda has unveiled the new 327-horsepower Mazda CX-60 PHEV, the brand’s first plug-in hybrid model for the European market.

The sleek interior design introduces Kaichou concepts – a disturbing element that mixes different materials and textures, such as maple wood, nappa leather, uniquely crafted Japanese textiles and chrome details, and Musubu – the art of blending textiles. Musubu was the inspiration for the detailed stitches on the dashboard.

The treatment of maple wood ornaments reflects the Japanese aesthetic of Hacho – asymmetrical balance or intentional differences. The various patterns and threads of the fabrics respond sensitively to changes in light, and a Japanese sewing technique called Kakenui creates “suspended” seams with spaces between the fabrics of the upholstery that reveal a small part of the material underneath.

Mazda CX-60 PHEV

Mazda CX-60 PHEV combines a conventional Skyactiv-G 2.5 direct-injection, four-cylinder, petrol-powered engine with a 100 kW electric motor, a completely new 8-speed automatic transmission and a 17.8 kWh battery (355 V).

This combination of propulsion offers a total power of 327 hp / 241 kW and a torque of 500 Nm, making it the most powerful production car ever produced by Mazda.

The Mazda CX-60 PHEV accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in just 5.8 seconds.

The combined fuel consumption of WLTP is 1.5 l / 100 km, and the combined CO2 emissions, in WLTP mode, are 33 g / km.

The Mazda CX-60 e-Skyactiv PHEV offers 63 km of electric range, with the vehicle running at 100 km / h or less.

The Skyactiv Multi-Solution Scalable Architecture platform of the new Mazda CX-60 features many enhancements that provide excellent driving dynamics. Adopting the human-centered Mazda approach, they include body rigidity that ensures drivers can feel the vehicle’s response without delay, seats that make it easier for passengers to maintain balance while driving, suspension that stabilizes the vehicle’s position while driving, and a unique vehicle posture control system – Mazda Kinematic Posture Control (KPC).

Positioning the battery between the front and rear axles and as low as possible inside the body gives the new Mazda CX-60 PHEV a low center of gravity. This, combined with a permanent all-wheel drive system that incorporates torque transfer between the cardan-driven axles, gives the car superior handling characteristics, similar to the best in the premium segment.

Security technologies

The new Mazda CX-60 PHEV features a full range of advanced i-Activsense driver-assistive safety technologies.

The Mazda CX-60 is equipped with several new safety systems: See-Through View – a 360-degree monitoring system that improves visibility at low speeds; Traffic signal assistance system (TAT); Intelligent Brake Assist (SBS-R) for pedestrian detection; Bandpass Assistant (LKA); Adaptive Autopilot (i-ACC); Blind spot monitoring system (BSM) with down warning function.

The Mazda Driver Personalization System will recognize the occupant of the driver’s seat and automatically adjust the surrounding elements – seat position, steering wheel, mirrors, HUD, even sound and climate control settings – to suit his physique as well as personal preferences.

In total, over the next three years, Mazda will launch five new electrified products that incorporate its multi-solution platform architecture. After 2025, the company will launch its new Skyactiv EV Scalable Architecture – a unique technology that will allow the company to efficiently build electric cars of all sizes using a single common platform.
