Mayor Lippens: “Major events have been abolished, mi … (Knokke-Heist)

Knokke-Heist –

In an interview with Het Laatste Nieuws, mayor Leopold Lippens (78) says that he may never allow major events in his city again. He believes that events “have no added value”.

Leopold Lippens does not expect that there will soon be a large influx of day trippers. Knokke has visitors all year round, so there is no difference from the summer period, he says. “There are no major events going on here this summer. We’ve done away with it, and maybe even forever. In the lockdown I had a lot of time to think about what our municipality really needs and I came to the conclusion that events do not add anything to Knokke-Heist ”, Het Laatste Nieuws reports.

“Our assets are peace, safety, quality of life. Mass meetings do not provide any added value here. I have not yet decided anything, but as far as I am concerned we will return to the basics. Corona taught us that we want too much. It was always “more, more, more”. But that has to stop once. ”
