maximum temperatures announced at 40° on Tuesday, records in sight?

In Hauts-de-France, Tuesday July 19 could be the hottest day of July and perhaps of the year. The maximum temperatures will flirt with 40° in the shade. There should not be a punctual record for all that, announces Météo France. Here’s why.

On mobile phones, many people have already noticed that the temperature on Tuesday July 19 in Hauts-de-France would exceed (according to various sources, such as The Weather Channel) 40°. After several days at more than 30°, we wonder how to support this day announced as very hot. Even suffocating, especially for the elderly and infants.

Few remember it, but three years ago, in July 2019, we already experienced the same thing.

On July 25 of this year, we had exceeded the point records with almost 3° more than the old records. In Lille, Laon, Arras, Amiens, Beauvais it had done respectively: 41.5°; 40.8°; 41.7°, 41.6° and 41.7°. However, for this Tuesday, July 19, 2022, several media and forecasters (Agate meteo or The Weather Channel) are announcing temperatures above 40° in Lille, Arras, Amiens, Beauvais or Laon.

On the other hand, our partner, Meteo France temper a bit. “There should be no record compared to 2019”, explains a forecaster for whom, with all the caution required, estimates that it will be “difficult” to reach 40° in Creil, Soissons, Arras, Laon, Cambrai or Valenciennes. The Météo France forecasts also rely more on readings of 37° in Soissons, Valenciennes and Cambrai, Arras, Amiens and Beauvais. The maximum is expected in Creil and Compiègne with 38°.

Absolute, annual or no record at all! Be aware in any case that the three highest maximums reached in the month of July, in the five prefectures of the Hauts-de-France departments, were all reached in the 21st century.
