“Maximum penalty for manslaughter higher” Interior

The parties do not yet agree on how high the penalty should be in the future. VVD, PvdA and SGP propose to increase the maximum sentence of imprisonment to twenty-five years. The CDA even argued in favor of imposing the same high penalty for manslaughter as for murder. Murder is a maximum of 30 years in prison or even for life.

It is a thorn in the eyes of the parties that the difference between the maximum sentence for murder and manslaughter is now so great that the judge can now impose a maximum of fifteen years in jail if there is no question of premeditation. Minister Dekker (Legal Protection) and Public Prosecutor Van der Burg have already complained about this.
