ANTWERP –
Max Meijer (23) from Ossendrecht was killed by drowning. Research shows that. His body surfaced and was found by a passerby, probably a skipper. The public prosecutor in Antwerp reports this.

The investigation into the cause of death has thus in principle been completed. Toxicological research is still being done, but the outcome is intended for the family of Max Meijer.
‘Tragic’
Earlier it became clear that there were no signs of malicious intent. This has been confirmed by the investigation. “It is a tragic and regrettable accident. But at least it is now clear to the family, because that uncertainty is of course not great.”
Max Meijer disappeared in the night from Saturday 7 to Sunday 8 December in Antwerp after walking. Both Belgian and Dutch media paid a lot of attention to the case. The family received many responses and statements of support. After a month the police stopped searching.
