The scientific and technological laboratory (DSTL) of the Ministry of Defense was responsible for evaluating the anti-viral activity of the mosi-guard Natural insect repellent, containing Citriodiol, derived from the essential oil of lemon eucalyptus (or eucalyptus citriodora).
At the end of this study, he reports that the Mosi-guard Natural mosquito repellent can neutralize the new coronavirus.
The product was applied directly to the SARS-CoV-2 in the form of drops as well as to a synthetic latex skin, states the press release cited by the AFP agency. In both cases, it has been shown to be effective against the virus.
This research, which has not been peer reviewed, “is intended to serve as a basis for other scientific bodies engaged in research on the virus and possible solutions,” said the British Ministry of Defense.
A spray already used by the army
In May, British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace said the country’s armed forces were using this mosquito repellent to protect against the coronavirus. He said at the time that the spray was provided to personnel after the Surgeon General of the Armed Forces advised that it “would do no harm” and was to be used as an “extra layer of protection” .
