Matthew McConaughey has not hesitated to publicly expose the striking theory that his good friend Woody Harrelson and he they could be brothers of blood. The two actors, both originally from Texas, had always joked about their supposed physical resemblance, to the point that their respective sons refer to one another as ‘Uncle Woody’ and ‘Uncle Matthew’.
What seemed like a funny anecdote took a radical turn during a family vacation in Greece, when Matthew’s mother admitted that she personally knew Woody’s father, with whom she would have bonded precisely during the divorce proceedings from McConaughey’s father.
“Well, in our relationship there is some pretty blurry line, we don’t know where our bond begins and ends. And that’s part of our ‘bromance’. Sometimes my family gets confused when we see pictures and they think it’s Woody who’s out in the image and not me”, he revealed during his time on the program ‘Let’s Talk Off Camera’, presented by Kelly Ripa.
The interpreter has recalled the surprise with which they reacted to the phrase that their mother uttered, addressing Woody directly. “It all started a few years ago in Greece. The two families were sitting around the table. And my mother said: ‘Woody, I knew your father’. Everyone was aware of the tone she used when she said ‘I knew’, she put emphasis on the word”, he recounted.
After recovering from the initial shock, the two interpreters began to “do accounts” and found some invoices that revealed various meetings “in the West Texas area.” “We wanted to unravel what that ‘knew’ means and we came to the conclusion that Woody’s father was on leave from work at the same time that my mother and father were going through their second divorce. There are possible receipts and places where they could have been those ‘meetings’, those moments linked to the ‘knew’, has argued about this hypothesis.
It is unknown if Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson will take the investigation further. At the moment, Matthew is reluctant to take a DNA test, basically because of the existential crisis he would fall into if the test gave a positive result. “It’s a little hard on me. Imagine what I would say: ‘What? You’re telling me that after 53 years, my father might not be my father?’ It’s a very risky thing,” he admitted.
