Massari confirms: the king of pastry chefs lands in Verona

It’s official: the guru of Italian pastry Iginio Massari opens a new store in the heart of the historic center, in Corso Santa Anastasia on the corner with via Rosa, in the spaces that until a few months ago were occupied by the Loacker café.

Renovations are underway, a sign that the store’s arrival is really imminent.

Already several months ago, at the end of January, the master of pastry chefs had announced the Veronese expansion of his format, publishing a post on his Facebook page that looked like a job advertisement: “We are looking for pastry chefs residing in Verona. Among the requests, a strong orientation to quality, fine manual skills, the ability to work within a team and to learn quickly ».

But with the advent of Covid-19 it had been difficult to hypothesize an inauguration date. A little muted, confirmation of the upcoming opening comes from Massari himself, who also posted on the social networks the image of the new headquarters in Corso Santa Anastasia, seen from the outside, accompanied by the hashtag #workinprogress, work in progress.

To a follower who asks for information on cutting the ribbon, Massari replies “In autumn”. And then «Two meters from the oldest square», replies to another user who asks where, exactly, in Verona.

Cook and TV personality, regular guest at Masterchef, in career Iginio Massari has won more than 300 national and international competitions and awards. In 2019, at the age of 76, he was crowned the best pastry chef in the world. In addition to the historic Pasticceria Veneto, which is located in Brescia, his hometown and where he resides for most of the year, recently it has also opened in Milan and Turin. In Verona it is not an absolute first: in his youth, after his professional training in Switzerland, Iginio Massari had worked for Bauli as head of qualitative innovation, consolidating his knowledge on the leavening of sweet doughs.
