Mass burial took place in Myanmar when 149 people had been “killed” by the military junta

During the funeral, mourners chanted, “Our revolution must win!”

Several families told local media that security forces confiscated a number of the bodies of their loved ones, but the bereaved families held funeral services anyway.

The number of deaths in the anti-coup protests that broke out on Sunday was the majority in the small town of Hlaing Tharyar in Yangon.

The area is a garment producer with most of the factories owned by the Chinese.

Media Burma, Irrawaddy, released photos of residents who fled the city on Tuesday (16/3/2021).

Some carry their pets on the back of motorbikes, while others carry their belongings in tuk-tuks.

“We can see people on the street as far as the eye can see,” the Democratic Voice of Burma reported.

A resident told Agence France Presse (AFP) about the exodus, saying that people wanted to leave at dawn and protesters had removed the makeshift barricades to slow down security forces until the fugitives were able to get out.

“After 9 am, residents again blocked the road with a barrier. They allow people to leave only in the morning, “he said, adding that security forces have been deployed on the main streets of small towns.

“We do not dare to go down the street,” he said.

Estimates of the death toll rose again on Tuesday (16/3/2021), when a protester was shot dead in downtown Kawlin, said a resident there.
