Marvel: Anthony Mackie (Falcon) criticizes lack of diversity – Film News

Interpreter of the Hawk in the films and series of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Anthony Mackie pointed out the lack of diversity that reigns in the productions of the studio, and strongly criticized “Black Panther”.

The Walt Disney Company France

With Nick Fury and War Machine, the Falcon played by Anthony Mackie was one of the first Black heroes of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Even if, like those respectively embodied by Samuel L. Jackson and Don Cheadle, his character is secondary in the intrigue. Data that is about to change thanks to a future series produced by Disney +: “When The Falcon and the Winter Soldier comes out, I will be the main actor. In Snowpiercer, you are”, explains the actor during a conversation with Daveed Diggs within the podcast Actors on Actors de Variety. “We have the power and the opportunity to raise these issues”, he continues, evoking diversity.

Or rather its absence: “It bothers me to have made seven Marvel films in which each producer, each director, each stuntman, each costume designer, each production assistant … Anyone was a white man.” Recently seen in season 2 of Altered Carbon on Netflix, the actor then criticizes the way in which Black Panther has done the opposite of what he has witnessed since his debut in Captain America – The Winter Soldier: “On Black Panther, you have a Black director [Ryan Coogler], a black producer [Nate Moore], a black costume manager [Ruth E. Carter], a coordinator of the Black waterfalls. But I tell myself that it’s more racist than anything else. Because if you only hire black people to make a black movie, are you saying they are not good enough to work with a predominantly white cast? “

WILL PHASE IV BE THAT OF DIVERSITY?

While he concludes by specifying that it is necessary simply “hire the best person for the job”, regardless of gender or skin color, Phase IV of the Marvel Cinematic Universe could bring some changes. This is in any case what is regularly announced, and the producer Victoria Alonso spoke about it in a question and answer session on Reddit in May 2019: “We are actively working to make our universe as diverse and inclusive as we can.” Despite a slightly postponed start due to the coronavirus pandemic that has impacted Hollywood, the House of Ideas will soon release a feature film carried by a superheroine and directed by a woman (Black Widow by Cate Shortland, October 28) , The Eternals by Chloé Zhao with its multiracial casting (February 10, 2021) or even Shang-Chi by Destin Daniel Cretton and its mainly Asian distribution (May 5, 2021). Without forgetting Black Panther 2, still signed Ryan Coogler (May 4, 2022), or The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, first series of the MCU produced for Disney +, and of which Anthony Mackie will be the main actor.

A show whose launch was initially scheduled for August, but the coronavirus may have changed the situation, especially since the shooting did not resume until May. Friends of Captain America should not be long in coming, however.

When is a real trailer after this very short teaser?
