Martin Škrtel’s return to the Slovak league scene is already a reality. The 36-year-old player made his debut for the Spartak in Trnava on Friday in the match against ŠKF Sereď (2: 0). The debut was victorious after the goals of Cabral and Boateng, to which the former captain of the Slovak national team also contributed with clean work.
With the number 37 on the jersey, he did not lose a single duel, in several situations he applied his overview. He was torn after the match. How do you rate your premiere in Trnava yourself?
“It simply came to our notice then. I am satisfied that we won, so they confirmed the victory from Michalovce. Personally, I’m glad it finally came. The wait is behind me, it’s been a long time and I’m glad that even after my arrival the team didn’t score a goal. So far we haven’t collected a lot of those goals and I’m especially glad I didn’t mess anything up here. ”
Did you also have any nervousness or tremor?
“Not even a fright, but rather such an expectation as I said: seven months of being without a match is an awfully long time, and I myself was curious how I would jump into that match. It was so knocking at first, but it got better with time. I needed to win a duel in a match, give a good ball to start believing. There are coaches and fans to evaluate my performance, I’m glad we didn’t collect. ”
After the victory over Sereď, the Spartak team jumped to 1st place in Sunday’s match between Slovan and Žilina.
“I am very happy, but the circumstances are as they are. We are up, but the season is still long. When we go from match to match with such performances and a conscientious approach, we can achieve the goal, to move on. ”

What about Achilovka?
“She’s fine, it doesn’t limit me in any way. From the beginning of this match, I caught the pace a bit, because the time without football was very long and it is different to train than to play a match. With minutes and actions, it got better and better. I’m glad it turned out the way it did. I believe that I will improve with each match. ”
How did you work with Sebastian Koš in the tracker couple?
“I think it’s good, whether it’s in wrestling or training. It worked there, but not only with him, but also with the other guys who are there, whether it’s Filip Twardzik or Gergely Tumma. The competition on the hitchhiker is good. These players are good quality and we can only move it forward. ”
You talked to Kosha during breaks in the game. Did you direct him?
“It simply came to our notice then. I don’t mean to say I’m surprised, but for his age he’s hugely confident, yet humble, humble. He understands football and perceives it. I think that we are growing not only for the Trnava club, but for the whole Slovak football tracker, who could shuffle the cards in the national team in the future as well. ”
But did you think you were a little angry with him at the training before the match?
“Those young people are getting bolder, but I think that’s part of it. And sometimes wishing the boys good taste doesn’t hurt. ”
How do you perceive the Slovak league? You’ve been away from it for a long time, but you’ve definitely been watching her …
“I think it is unnecessarily underestimated. During the time I’ve been here, whether in the club or in terms of the match I could play, it can be seen that the players in it have their quality. I would say that it is such a mix of quality, good and experienced players. If there is an atmosphere everywhere like here, it will be even better. ”

How did you perceive the fans and their number?
“I am glad that as many of them came as I did, and I believe that despite the circumstances and measures, they will still be allowed to go to matches. The more, the better. Not just for me, but for the players, for the team. He plays well and deserves their support. ”
How did you register that in the 37th minute of the match, the fans started singing a chant, in which they greeted you again in Trnava?
“Of course, it’s always nice to feel the support of the fans, but as I’ve said several times, it’s not just about me, it’s about the team, the club and I think the coexistence of the fans with the team is at an excellent level. And I believe that we will continue to enjoy them with our performances and results, and I believe that their numbers in the stands will increase. ”
So how are you doing in Trnava so far?
“I found a lively, dusty environment. The cabin is excellent, it works well. It can be said that the boys accepted me right from the first day. There was also no problem on my part. I am glad that I fit into this team on the field. And I believe that as time goes on, mine and their performance will only improve. ”
You’ve had several debuts. In Trenčín, Zenith, Liverpool, Turkey. Was this different? Because you are another Martin Škrtel?
“Certainly there was a responsibility, not in terms of being someone else, but because I played at home again. It is different to work abroad and operate in Slovakia, there is a different sense of responsibility. So far, however, everything is working as it should, and I believe it will stay that way. I hope that with the increasing number of matches, the results will be as we wish and we will achieve it at the end of the season. ”
A young man from Azerbaijan was waiting for you with the Liverpool jersey after the match. What was it about?
“She is a fan. I don’t mean to say we’re in touch, but he’s been following and supporting me since I was in Liverpool and he’s been doing it until now. It will always please – such devoted and loyal fans. Taking a picture with him and signing his jersey is probably the least I can do for him. He was already here, I guess, last time, but we couldn’t meet. It’s out now. ”
WANTS TO SUBMIT EXPERIENCE
Even before the match, Martin Škrtel talked in an interview for the club website about how he perceives the players in the track positions in Spartak. Recall that Nigerian quarterback Izuchukwu Anthony transferred to the Israeli club Hapoel Haifa in the previous days.
“I think Geri Tumma and Sebo Kosha have stepped into good careers. If I were one of those who can help them grow, I would be very happy. From personal experience, I know that when a young boy comes to the team, it will help him if he has an experienced player next to him from whom he can learn. I had them in Trenčín when I started – Ondrej Šmelko, Milan Mičenec, also Alexander Homér, in the national team Stano Varga.
