Repsol Honda Racers Mark Marquez satisfied with the result Mandalika MotoGP test 2022 despite only being able to be in ninth position.
Marquez ended the last day of the Mandalika 2022 MotoGP test, Sunday (13/2), in 14th position. However, in terms of a combined time of three days, the six-time MotoGP world champion is in ninth position, 0.421 seconds adrift of Pol Espargaro.
Despite losing to his teammate at Repsol Honda, Marquez is optimistic that he is ready to take on the 2022 MotoGP. The Spaniard is confident in his season after devouring 74 laps of the Mandalika MotoGP test.
“I am happy with the result of this pre-season. Of course you will always want more [tes]but we are happy with the result, especially in Mandalika,” said Marquez ASMonday (14/2).
The 28-year-old racer revealed that Honda made many changes compared to the previous test at the Sepang Circuit, Malaysia. This is inseparable from the team’s plan to test the new Honda RC213V suit for the competition season.
“This bike has potential, in the first laps I can go fast but to reach the level of speed [yang diinginkan] It’s quite difficult for me,” he said.
Marquez was disappointed when he saw himself in 14th place in the record time on the last day of the Mandalika MotoGP test. But it happened because Honda did a lot of experiments.
“Today I finished in 14th place, I wasn’t ready. It’s true I raced fast. I had good pace with good control. We tried some settings [di sepeda motor] new,” he said.
“We tried different settings and the lap time kept improving. When you feel that sensation then the potential is there. It’s true that Mandalika is a special track, a bit slippery and in those conditions usually I feel good. But in the end the grip is good, I’m happy, because we left the Mandalika test with a good result,” said Marquez.
The first race of the season will take place at the Qatar MotoGP, 6 March.
