Maritime Police Officer Rescues Captain and Stops Runaway Boat at Sea

A maritime police officer in a black suit stands on the railing of the boat.

A moment later, a police officer jumps right into a running boat.

Stop the engine by quickly raising the fallen body.

This happened in the early morning of June 19 at sea near Sacheon-myeon, Gangneung, Gangwon-do.

Prior to this, there was an accident in which the Jumunjin-loaded fishing boat A and the Sichuan-loaded B vessel collided.

When the captain of ship A fell into the sea in this accident, the captain of ship B rescued him and transported him to Sacheon Port, Gangneung.

The problem is that A, which has lost its captain, continues to run on the sea.

A was crossing the sea at a speed of 16 to 17 knots and 30 km/h.

The Coast Guard, who was dispatched after receiving the report, found the ship A, which had gone out to about 20 km to the open sea after the collision, and immediately jumped in and stopped the ship.

The police officer who jumped in was Lim Seong-gyu, a member of the Donghae Maritime Police Station.

The Donghae Regional Maritime Police Agency announced that it selected Lim, who prevented the second accident, as an excellent civil servant who took the lead in public safety and awarded him a special promotion order.

Lim said, “I just did what I had to do as a police officer, and I am grateful for the award. I will do my best in the future.”
