Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit AR game needs at least 3×3.7m of space – Gaming – News

Nintendo has announced more details about the AR game Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit. For example, Nintendo recommends a minimum space of 3 by 3.7 meters, although Nintendo advises 4.6 by 4.6 meters. The karts also work on carpet, although you could drive more slowly.

Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit is a Switch game where gamers can race through their house with a remote-controlled toy kart. The software is free to download from the eShop, but to play the game, the Switch must be paired with the $ 120 physical set, which consists of a kart, four ports and a charging cable. When starting the game, a QR code appears on the screen of the Switch, which must be scanned with the camera of the go-kart.

Players must set up these four gates in, for example, a living room. Players cannot set up more or less gates. Users can then drive through the gates with the kart to set up a circuit. This can be a simple lap, or a track with several complicated turns. The track can also cross itself, for example to make a figure eight.

Bee previous images the kart was racing on a laminate floor. Nintendo says the game would also work on carpet, for example, although the kart could drive slowly. The kart races less quickly, especially on thicker carpets. Engadget notes that that carpet can cause an unfair disadvantage for the player. If the physical kart slows down, the kart in play will also slow down. However, the software does not recognize when the player is driving on carpet, so the AI players will drive at normal speed, while the human player slows down. The game also does not take height differences into account, so tracks with multiple floors cannot be made.

The physical karts work with Bluetooth and have a range of nine meters. Nintendo recommends staying within 4.6 meters of the kart for best results. The karts have a battery life of ninety minutes in the 150cc game mode. As in other Mario Kart games, users can choose from multiple leaderboards, Live: Home Circuit is 50cc, 100cc, 150cc and 200cc. A faster ranking in the game also means that the physical karts will drive faster. The battery life will therefore be lower in faster rankings than in slower rankings. Charging is via an included USB cable.

Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit does not have online multiplayer, only locally with a maximum of four people. Those four people must each have purchased the game, bring the kart and a Switch. Users can customize the course in-game with, for example, a lava theme, with the game world glowing red and lava balls falling. The in-game kart and driver are also customizable, with options randomly unlocking with coins collected.

The game developed by Velan Studios will be available from October 16. A Dutch suggested retail price has not been communicated, but the game can be pre-ordered from Belgian and Dutch providers for 120 euros. The game will be available as a Mario and Luigi variant and will work with the Nintendo Switch and Switch Lite.
