Marina Litvinenko Warns: Putin Regime a Threat to Taiwan and the World

Marina Litvinenko, the widow of the former Soviet intelligence agency “KGB” agent Litvinenko, told Central News Agency that not only Europe, but also Russian President Vladimir Putin and his regime “absolutely” treat Taiwan threatening. She said that creating and maintaining “chaos” is the only way for the Putin regime to survive. Whether in Europe, the Middle East or Asia, the Putin regime is accustomed to adopting “chaos” tactics, because in chaotic situations, everyone is bound to Difficulty concentrating on the most critical core issues.

Marina believes that the situation in Taiwan has diverted attention from all walks of life on the war in Ukraine to a certain extent. She emphasized that from Putin’s perspective, any regional conflict in the world will only bring benefits to him, so for Taiwan, Putin and his regime are definitely a “threat.”

Marina’s late husband, Alexander Litvinenko, who fled to the UK with his family in 2000, was poisoned in London in November 2006 at the age of 43. The European Court of Human Rights ruled in 2021 that Russian authorities were responsible for the assassination. Marina has been traveling around the country for many years to prove the culpability of the Putin regime, and is currently a high-profile Russian dissident.

Marina recently attended a symposium for foreign journalists held in London and was interviewed by China Central News Agency after the meeting.

Russian dissidents have different views on Russia’s all-out aggression against Ukraine, whether the Putin regime is an “inevitable outcome” of Russian society, and whether the Russian people should bear “collective responsibility” for the war in Ukraine. Some people believe that the war in Ukraine is “Putin versus the West” rather than “a war between Russia and the West”; that the invasion of Ukraine “is not the real Russia”, Putin cannot represent Russia, and Russia is suffering for no reason just like the Ukrainian people.

Others believe that, referring to the history of the rise and decline of Nazi Germany, Russian society cannot exclude its collective responsibility for the war of aggression, and that the Putin regime is far from being a nightmare that the general public is forced to accept, but a crisis of Russian society. inevitable product. Some people also pointed out that what many so-called anti-war Russians object to is not the “invasion” itself, but the disadvantageous situation that the war has caused them at home and abroad. Russian “anti-war” people may not support Ukraine’s victory, nor may they realize the need to review the “Great Russianism” that pervades Russian society and is conducive to fostering warlike sentiments.

In response to the Central News Agency’s inquiry, Marina said that the war in Ukraine is “the Russian privileged ruling circle created by Putin”, not the war of the “Russian people”; this “privileged ruling circle” includes intelligence agencies, oligarchs and wealthy people from all walks of life. They are the ones responsible for the war in the first place.

Marina said that the Russian people still lack civic consciousness and the skills to operate a democratic society, and their understanding of “democracy” is very limited, not to mention that Putin has destroyed the mechanisms that support the normal operation of a democratic society. She believes that Russian society has no collective responsibility for the war, but there is a need to develop a “collective understanding” of why “others have such a negative view of Russians”.

Central News Agency asked how to be sure that once Putin is gone, Russia will not pose a danger to other countries, especially neighboring countries. Marina responded that the matter is of course not as simple as “Putin passed away and Russia turned into a democratic and friendly country”; change takes time, and all walks of life can observe the willingness of Russian society to change in the “post-Putin” period. Once the war situation in Ukraine changes, Development in an extremely unfavorable direction for Russia may actually give Russia a chance to “rebirth.”

At the symposium, Marina mentioned that even without Putin, Russia would not “restore” democracy, because in fact, Russia “has never been a democratic country” and “democracy” is still in its early stages of development in Russia. She pointed out that the first priority of the Russian opposition should be to unite against the war in Ukraine. “Only when Ukraine wins on the front line, will the Russian opposition be able to win in Russia.”

The Russian presidential election will take place in March. It is widely expected that this will be another fake election designed to provide Putin with legitimacy for his rule. Marina called on everyone from all walks of life not to recognize the election results officially released by Russia, and not to call Putin, who is bound to successfully compete for the top job again, “president.”

Marina mentioned that many countries do not call Belarus’ strongman ruler Alexander Lukashenko “president” and the official results of the 2020 Belarus presidential election are not generally recognized by the international community. Since the elections in both Russia and Belarus were unfair and inconsistent with the principles of liberal democracy, why not follow the treatment given to Lukashenko and refuse to recognize Putin as the new president of Russia?
