Marcos Alvarez signed a three-year contract with Cracovia. The contract of the German forward with the Krakow club was signed in January, but did not enter into force until July 1. Cracovia authorities tried to make the striker join the ranks of the club during the winter window, but it ultimately failed.
Alvarez in an interview with Mateusz Miga from sport.tvp.pl talked about the backstage of negotiations with the Krakow club. Forward, incl. He honestly admitted that players in Germany do not look to the Polish league.
“It was something crazy. I was on vacation in Egypt when my agent called me. He sometimes asked me if I would like to play in Poland. I never took it seriously. If you grow up in Germany you don’t look at leagues like Poland or You look at the strongest ones – Premier League, Primera Division, Serie A. You are interested in them. I didn’t know anything about the Polish league and I treated Paul’s words as a joke. So it’s December last year, I’m in Egypt, Paul is calling.
– Hey Marcos, Cracovia wants to sign a contract with you.
– Who?
– Cracovia, Polish club!
– You’re kidding again …
– No, I promise you. They are seriously interested.
– I’m going back to Germany on January 1, then we will talk calmly.
I’m back on January 1st, I landed in Frankfurt at 10am. Just then, Paul is calling.
– Where are you?
– I just returned.
– Listen, we are at the airport, we have a contract proposed by Cracovia.
That was how it went. Straight from the airport, my wife and dad went to the hotel, where Paul was waiting for us with Artur (Wolski – editor’s note) and a contract proposal. We sat on it and started making our corrections. Something was missing, I wanted to add something, we called the club several times. After all, Paul says we have a flight to Krakow soon. ″ OK, let’s go ″ – I said. In Krakow, we went to a restaurant owned by the club owner (Wierzynek – editor’s note), had dinner, and then went to the stadium. Around 1 am everything was clear and then I signed the contract.
I have spoken to the coach several times. Everyone knows Michał Probierz in Poland. He’s an emotional guy. From day one, he told me that I would be his man. ″ I really need someone like you. An effective striker with a lot of self-confidence ″ – he said. He kept urging me on this transfer. For a forward, the confidence of the coach is very important. I got a good feeling about coach Probierz and his person is one of the main reasons that made me move to Cracovia “- said Alvarez for sport.tvp.pl.
Alvarez, 28, currently plays for the sixth team of the 2. Bundesliga, VfL Osnabruck. In the fall round, he played seventeen matches, scoring eight goals.
Alvarez previously was a footballer incl. Eintracht Frankfurt, Stuttgarter Kickers, reserves Bayern Munich and Dynamo Dresden. He has also played in the junior national teams of Germany.
