March 28 Grenoble Strike: Unions Report 40,000 Demonstrators, Police Report 12,000; Look Back at the Day of Protests

Relive the tenth day of mobilization against the pension reform in Grenoble. The demonstration, which took place peacefully on Tuesday, brought together 40,000 people according to the inter-union, 12,000 according to the police.

The dispute starts again for a turn. Five days after a record mobilization in Grenoble in the procession against the pension reform, a tenth day of demonstration is held this Tuesday, March 28. While the government remains inflexible, not wishing to withdraw its controversial text, the inter-union is once again calling for a strike.

In Grenoble, the demonstrators set off from Cours Jean-Jaurès shortly after 2 p.m. in the direction of the Grands Boulevards. They went up Boulevard Foch before reaching Place de Verdun, the end point of the demonstration, which must be occupied until 7 p.m. The inter-union counted 40,000 demonstrators on Tuesday against 56,000 on March 23. They were 12,000 according to the police.

3:10 p.m. – The head of the procession is now marching on Boulevard Foch while other demonstrators are still going up Cours Jean-Jaurès.

15h05 – The procession progresses in music on the Cours Jean-Jaurès. The atmosphere is calm and the crowd large.

15 hours – The head of the procession arrives on Boulevard Foch. They take the direction of Chavant then will join, at the end of the course, the place of Verdun.

14h53 – The procession set off on the Cours Jean-Jaurès. It arrives under the Pont de l’Estacade before reaching Boulevard Foch.

14h40 – “Retirement at 60, we fought to win it, we will fight to keep it.” The student unions and high school students, at the front of the procession, set the tone of the movement and play the hall drivers.

14h30 – The demonstrators are preparing to leave on the Cours Jean-Jaurès. High school and university students lead the procession.
