Horror offense done Marcelo on match Libertadores Cup. The veteran Brazilian defender broke his opponent’s leg!
Marcelo appeared to defend the Brazilian club, Fluminense, against Argentinos Junior in the last 16 match of the Copa Libertadores. The duel took place at the Estadio Diego Armando Maradona, Buenos Aires, Tuesday (1/8/2023).
The incident occurred entering the 56th minute. Marcelo, who was dribbling the ball, faced Argentinos Juniors defender, Luciano Sanchez.
When trying to pass Sanchez, Marcelo accidentally stepped on his opponent’s calf. The stamping was so fatal that it made Sanchez’s legs bend abnormally.
Sanchez immediately lay on the field and was in pain from a broken leg. He was then stretchered off the field and unable to continue the match.
Marcelo was immediately rewarded by the referee’s red card for this violation. The former Real Madrid defender seemed to cry regretting what he had done to Sanchez.
The Argentinos Juniors vs Fluminense match was resumed and ended in a 1-1 draw. After the game, Marcelo expressed his regret for his foul on Sanchez.
“I had a very difficult moment on the pitch today. I accidentally injured a fellow footballer,” Marcelo wrote on his Twitter account.
“I want to wish you the best recovery, Luciano Sanchez,” he concluded.

The two teams will play again next week at the Maracana Stadium for a place in the quarterfinals. Marcelo confirmed absent as a result of the red card punishment he received.
