BANGKOK, KOMPAS.com – Tape worm 17 meters long that the doctor removed from buttocks a man on Thailand, is the longest finding in the last 50 years in the country.
Dr Schawanya Rattanapitoon, who led the operation team, said the worms could live in the human body for 30 years.
The operation was carried out on Saturday (20/3/2021), and this 67-year-old patient previously had to take deworming medicine first.

Patients are also given medication at night before bed, said a spokesman for the local parasitic disease research center.
From the lab results, it was found that there were 28 worm eggs in the unidentified man’s stomach.
Samples were taken, and immediately sent to the Parasite Disease Research Center located in Nakhon Ratchasima.
It all started when this patient, who comes from Nong Khai Province, came to the hospital complaining of abdominal pain and bloating.
The medical team then took action, and video footage showed tape worm 17 meters long removed from his anus.
The worms are then stretched out on the red cloth.

“In the morning, the parasite came out of his anus. It took us time to stretch it,” he explained.
Launch Daily Mail on Wednesday (24/3/2021), doctors believed the animal came from raw meat eaten by the patient.
Dr Rattanapitoon said the man received treatment and was warned to change his eating habits.
He continued, the patient’s family was also advised to carry out an examination to find out if there were the same worms in their bodies.
