No music was allowed to be played during the demonstration, but towards the end of the demonstration an exception was made with the playing of Fight For Your Rights by Beasty Boys.

One of the last speakers on stage was DJ Joost van Bellen. “The politicians do not give a shit about the night and do not give a shit about all the people who work in it,” the DJ said to those present. “The night is waiting, but without respect and support we cannot keep up that waiting. Without support, a gigantic industry and a culture that we are proud of in the Netherlands will break down. ”

The atmosphere during the demonstration remained pleasant. The demonstrators also adhered to the distance rules, which they were often reminded of by the organization from the podium. 5,000 dots had been placed on the ground on Museumplein to disperse the protesters.

Financially on the brink of collapse

The manifestation ‘De Nacht Wacht’ started at 2 pm and was supported by clubs such as Paradiso, Escape, AIR and Panama. Many catering establishments are financially on the verge of collapse. The banners contained texts such as We love Paradiso, We want to rave, give back the night and Fight for your right to party. Demonstrators and entrepreneurs thus indicated that they did not feel heard by the government.

“Clubs are hammered in the media. They will be closed when they try to be inventive in this corona time, ”said Nadia Denise Duinker, founder of the Canvas and Doka businesses and one of the speakers. “The vaccine is suggested as the only remedy. In the meantime, a second lockdown is hanging over our heads. Entrepreneurs have shown enough inventiveness to make do with what we have. ”
