Manchester United Troubles with Marcus Rashford and Mason Mount: A Deeper Problem?

Manchester

Marcus Rashford and Mason Mount trouble with Manchester United this season. There are concerns that they will suffer the same fate Paul Pogba and Angel Di Maria.

Rashford has been quiet this season at MU and has only scored two goals in 19 appearances in all competitions. Even though last season he shone by scoring 30 goals and becoming the team’s top scorer, more than double Bruno Fernandes’ score (14 goals).

In line with Rashford, Mason Mount has also not been able to shine. Signed from Chelsea in the last summer transfer market for a total of 60 million pounds, the 24-year-old midfielder has yet to contribute a goal and has only made one assist in 12 matches.

Injuries have made it increasingly difficult for Mount to adjust to MU. Seeing this situation, former Liverpool and MU striker Michael Owen is worried that the two of them will be stuck at MU for whatever reason.

“Marcus went through strange years. He was extraordinary at times, but also had a quiet year. We thought he had recovered last season and returned to his best level, but this season is not going well enough,” he said as reported Metro.

“We saw Paul Pogba and Angel Di Maria come in with great value, and we are now seeing the same thing happen with Rashford and Mason Mount.”

Owen believes the stagnant development of a number of MU players is not solely due to individual problems. There are other issues at the club that affect the players.

In Pogba’s case, he was dumped by MU at a young age and then shone with Juventus, but faded again when he returned to Old Trafford.

“Manchester United has spent more than 1 billion pounds in the last decade. There must be a deeper problem rather than a player deteriorating and the club’s solution is to write him off and start a new plan again,” continued Owen.

“These are good players who, if they moved to another team, would show what they are capable of. Some of the United players were good before, and some are good after leaving.”

“I know these players have better things in them. The problem is they can’t show it. This club has had some of the best managers in recent years, but can’t seem to make a team that clicks. That’s strange.”
