Cristiano Ronaldo has had a decent season at Manchester United

Former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie says Cristiano Ronaldo will demand big signings ahead of the new season. The Portuguese was a rare bright spot in a dismal performance by Manchester United last season, scoring 24 goals in 38 games.

Speak with football insiderMcAvennie said the new manager, Ten Hag, needed to speak to Ronaldo and get him on the same page as him.

“The first thing he (Ten Hag) has to do is get the players on his side. The main man in the dressing room is Ronaldo and he wants to keep him with him. He needs to go and talk to him now – and he may have already done so via Zoom. He has to reach him because he’s exactly the kind of player you need in your corner.”

He added:

“Anthony Martial and guys like that will be back on the first team soon. He has to move her on quickly. He needs to get big players. Let’s be honest, Man United are still among the biggest clubs in the world. So they have to be in the market for these big players. Ronaldo will demand that. He needs people around him who match his ambition – he’s a serial winner.”

Kevin Campbell advises Raphael Varane to improve next season

Raphael Varane has endured a difficult debut season at Manchester United

Former Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell has helped Raphael Varane regain his form next season. The Frenchman joined Manchester United from Real Madrid last summer but has struggled to find his feet in the Premier League.

Speak with football insiderCampbell said Varane suffered from a poor midfield in front of him.

“Sometimes central defenders need a midfield. She usually protects the midfield. Man United’s midfield has been poor this season. A single player cannot change the team completely. Ronaldo had a great season, but not even he could stop the rot. United will be better under Erik ten Hag next season. I also expect a big improvement from Varane. With a year under his belt, he will be a better player. In general they will be much better next season.”

Anthony Martial has had a difficult season

Frank McAvennie believes Manchester United will sack Anthony Martial this summer. The Frenchman endured a poor six-month loan spell at Sevilla after joining them in January. The 26-year-old has only scored one goal in twelve appearances.

Speak with football insiderMcAvennie said the Red Devils could loan him out or sell him on a bargain offer.

“Martial will go, I’m pretty sure of that. Well I say this, who wants to sign him? He left Man United for a reason and then went to Spain. He hasn’t done anything over there so I don’t think there will be a huge line of clubs trying to sign him.”
