The Manchester team suffered a bitter defeat after being led in the meantime. The title seems out of reach for the champions – Liverpool FC is almost unobtainable at the top of the table.
Manchester City has suffered another setback in the battle for the title. Coach Pep Guardiola’s team lost 2: 3 against a strong Wolverhampton Wanderers team. Meanwhile, his team is 14 points behind leaders Liverpool, who hardly seems to be taking the title anymore.
Manchester City comes under pressure early in the shortage
The game started anything but easy for the “Sky Blues”. City goalkeeper Ederson received the red card in the 13th minute because of the emergency brake. Guardiola then took Aguero off the pitch and put substitute goalkeeper Claudio Bravo in the box. He then outnumbered to a 4-4-1 system, with Sterling as the only top.

In the 26th minute, Manchester City took the lead with a penalty. Sterling scored after foul on Mahrez. The penalty was executed twice because Manchester City players ran into the box too early on the first attempt. Luck for the team from Manchester: The first time Sterling missed and the second try, keeper Rui Patricio stopped. But Sterling could bring the ball into the empty goal in the margin.

Until the break, the Guardiola team kept coming under pressure due to the shortage. Only with luck the Citizens survived the urgent phase of Wolverhampton shortly before the half-time break.
City is still sure victory
After half-time, the Manchester guests extended their lead through a Sterling counter goal. Following a corner of the hosts, Sterling had initiated the attack himself and lobbed in after the presentation of Kevin de Bruyne via goalkeeper Patricio to 2: 0.
But Wolverhampton did not give up and was whipped forward by the frenetic audience. With a powerful shot from the penalty area, Wolverhampton’s Traoré finally scored the overdue goal in the 55th minute and made the game even more exciting.

In the following, the master came under increasing pressure. The “Wolves” had several chances to score, mainly due to standards. Wolverhampton’s Saiss narrowly missed the equalizer in the 73rd minute.
Bad luck: Man Citys Benjamin Mendy
City’s Benjamin Mendy eventually became the unlucky one. The defender deflected the ball to Traoré on the edge of the penalty area on the 82nd minute, who put it on Jiménez and inserted it. The Molineux Stadium suddenly turned upside down.

But that’s not all: After considerable dribbling through the penalty area of the “Sky Blues” Wolverhamptons Doherty also scored the 3: 2. While the Wolves fans were in each other’s arms, Guardiola on the sidelines just shook his head at his team’s weak defense. Shortly before the end, in the 90th minute, Raheem Sterling almost achieved the 3: 3. The English international only hit the crossbar after a free kick and could no longer prevent the defeat.
With a gap of 14 points, the title of the Guardiola team now hardly seems possible. The champion from Manchester can only hope for mistakes by Liverpool FC in the title fight. There is hope for this already on the next matchday (December 29th): Because then Jürgen Klopp’s team will welcome a fighting team on Anfield, namely the Wolverhampton Wanderers.
