A 43-year-old man was fatally injured on Saturday afternoon in a stabbing near the Driekoningenstraat in Berchem. He got a stab in the neck. The perpetrator fled, but was arrested later on Saturday evening.

The incident took place around 6 p.m. “A quarrel between a number of people probably escalated,” explains police spokesman Sven Lommaert. “In addition, someone took a knife to another person.” The victim, a 43-year-old man, suffered a stab wound to the neck and was transferred to the UZA in mortal danger.
The perpetrator then fled and was without a trace for a while. The Antwerp police arrived en masse and closed off part of the Baron De Caterstraat next to Driekoningenstraat. Police helicopter Rago was also asked to provide assistance. The judicial lab came on site to make findings. “The stabbing weapon, a knife, has been found and confiscated,” Lommaert confirms.
Around half past seven the police were able to handcuff the suspected perpetrator. He was in a building and could be persuaded to surrender. The cause of the incident is still unclear.
On Friday evening another fight in Berchem also turned into a stabbing. Then a man was slightly injured after an argument in Statiestraat. The probable reason was an inappropriate remark to a woman. The man who handed out the knife stab was brought before the examining judge on Saturday.
