Eating cinnamon can help control blood sugar levels in people with a condition known as prediabetes. American researchers have found that in the long term it can slow the progression to type 2 diabetes itself.

Julio Romeo, a physician at Boston Diabetes Center Joslin and the Department of Endocrinology at Beth Israel Deaconess, said a 12-week study in dozens of volunteers showed positive effects in people with prediabetes after adding cinnamon to the diet. – These results provide the basis for longer and larger studies that will help to find out if cinnamon can reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes, – noted Giulio Romeo.

Meanwhile, earlier studies did not find sufficient evidence that using cinnamon helps control blood sugar levels.

Romeo believes this is because people who are diagnosed with diabetes may be taking different medications, which ultimately affects the “purity” of the study. So he and a group of researchers from South Korea decided to focus specifically on people with prediabetes who have not yet taken special drugs.

– Blood glucose levels in people who took cinnamon in the study were not as high as those who were given a placebo. Plus, in the first category, the sugar level returned to its original normal values ​​much faster, the doctor noted.
