In Assen, a 45-year-old Assenaar was arrested in the night from Friday to Saturday, who threatened fellow road users with a fake weapon from a van. After a long pursuit, the man was trapped at Het Kanaal, in the center of Assen.

Around 3 a.m. the police were informed of the threats and the van was signaled a little later. When the man did not respond to police stop signs, the chase was started. This went from Assen via Vries, Tynaarlo, Ubbena to Assen again. Various police cars joined in the pursuit.

Only at Het Kanaal in Assen could the man be forced to stop and was he talked out of the car and arrested. The fake weapon was seized. The police also decided to raid the man’s house, where a second fake weapon was found. The man will be examined further on Saturday.
