Man attacks ticket inspector with knife and escapes

A ticket inspector for the German train suffered serious injuries in a knife attack on an ICE between Munich and Augsburg. But he could still initiate an emergency braking, as the police announced on Sunday.

After the train came to a standstill, the perpetrator smashed an outer pane and fled. He was also not collected late in the evening.

According to a police spokesman, the injured inspector was taken to a hospital. The investigation into the background of the crime was ongoing. “We do not know the motivation of the perpetrator,” said the spokesman.

According to the police, the act took place near Althegnenberg in the early evening in the Upper Bavarian district of Fürstenfeldbruck. The search for the man was supported by the federal police, the police headquarters in Swabia North and a police helicopter.

A railway spokeswoman said in the evening: “We condemn this act and our thoughts go to our colleague, whom we wish a speedy recovery.” The ICE, in which the crime occurred, was examined for further evidence in the Augsburg train station, the police said. The public prosecutor has been informed.
