Found father killed
It was on 23 September 2020 that Kirkerud’s son went home to his father, whom neither he nor his sister had heard from in a week.

On the sofa in the apartment he found his father dead.
The first police patrol on the spot asked the investigating officer on duty in the Eastern police district to send forensic technicians, but did not get his will.

Admitted to hospital
However, on the basis of questioning of witnesses and other information in the case, the police quickly arrested the 41-year-old Eastern European who has now been convicted of the murder. Kirkerud and the 41-year-old were good friends in the time before the murder.
Through the investigation, the police have not been able to uncover any motive for the murder.
When the police arrested the 41-year-old, he was already hospitalized in a psychiatric hospital.

The expert forensic psychiatrists have concluded that the convicted person was psychotic at the time of the act.
They have concluded that he meets the criteria for the diagnosis of schizoaffective disorder. The court believes that the man’s perception of reality when the murder took place was seriously affected by the diagnosis.
They believe there is a danger that he will commit new serious acts of violence if he does not receive treatment.
Heart rate monitor became important
In the judgment, Søndre Østfold District Court emphasizes several pieces of evidence.
Among other things, the defendant’s phone turned on the wireless internet in Kirkerud’s apartment at 11.11 on the day the police believe he was killed.
At the same time, the police have found Kirkerud’s heart rate monitor, which stopped registering heart rate at 11.11. The police’s main theory is that Kirkerud was killed while he was sleeping.
Blood has also been found from Kirkerud on the 41-year-old’s shoes.
The convicted man came to Norway about 20 years ago. He has mainly worked as a craftsman. As a result of a violent conviction, he was deported from Norway in 2014 for a period of two years.
