Malaysia’s Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh strongly condemned the comments Bong Guang Yik that offends race and religion when assessing achievements badminton Malaysia.

Hannah Yeoh thinks Bong Guang Yik’s comments have no place in society. He also strongly condemned the comments.

“I do not agree with his comments on social media and strongly condemn any remarks related to race and religion even though he has apologized,” said Hannah Yeoh quoted from Malaysian Gazette.

According to Hannah Yeoh, religious worship has never interfered with the performance of Malaysian athletes.

“I believe that religious worship has never interfered with the achievements of athletes and sports. This has never been a problem in Malaysia,” said Hannah Yeoh.

Hannah Yeoh stated that sport must be free from racial and political elements. All Malaysian athletes are considered by Hannah Yeoh as someone who can be a source of inspiration to society.

Hannah Yeoh had also checked Bong Guang Yik’s status. As a result, Bong Guang Yik underwent a probationary period at BAM in 2014 and is now no longer living in Malaysia.

Bong Guang Yik has come under intense scrutiny for criticizing the condition of Malaysian badminton with racial comments. Bong Guang Yik alluded to the Malay race and the obligation to pray in his criticism.

“For Malays who enter the ranks of management [BAM]. They have prayed five times a day, so they have no intention of taking care of BAM.”
