A forklift caught fire in the hall on Wednesday evening, a spokesman for the Offenbach am Main police said on Thursday morning. The flames spread to insulation materials stored in the hall, another forklift and the hall ceiling.
Around 60 firefighters were on duty for around two hours. There are no injuries. The cause of the fire is still being investigated, said the police spokesman. A technical defect cannot be ruled out.
Update from Thursday, October 19th, 8:01 a.m.: There was a fire in a warehouse in the Hanau-Nord industrial area yesterday evening, which resulted in a large-scale operation by the Hanau fire department. For reasons that are still unclear, the fire broke out in the early evening in the building on Moselstrasse, where, among other things, insulation material is stored. The emergency services were alerted at 6:20 p.m. According to fire department spokesman Markus Geißler, passers-by noticed the smoke rising from the hall.
The professional fire brigade and the Central, Wolfgang, Mittelbuchen and Großauheim operations departments were deployed with a total of around 100 personnel. According to Geißler, they managed to bring the fire under control around 8 p.m. – “just before”; said the press spokesman, because in the meantime it was feared that the hall could not be saved. The extinguishing work lasted until late in the evening.
