Major network problems in French cities after vandalism on cables

There are major problems with internet access in France after fiber cables have been physically cut in several places in the country, French media report.

Many customers are said to have lost internet access or experienced major disruptions in the morning hours on Wednesday. The problem has affected several operators, including Free, Bouygues Telecom, SFR and Orange, writes BMF TV.

An operator informs the TV channel that the disturbances are related to fiber cables being cut in several areas, including between Paris and Strasbourg and between Paris and Lille in northern France.

The telecommunications company Free has reported damage in several places during the night.

The French Ministry of Trade and Industry states that it has been informed that cables have been cut and that this is the cause of the problems. It is currently unclear how extensive the damage is.

On the website DownDetector More than 2,200 reports of operational disruptions have been received by Free’s customers since 9.30 on Wednesday. During the night, hundreds of incidents were also reported.
