Mahfud Reveals Jokowi’s Reason for Canceling Paid Vaccine Program Program

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD revealed the concrete reasons President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) firmly canceled the paid vaccination program.

Through his tweet @mohmahfudmd, as quoted by CNBC Indonesia, Saturday (17/7/2021), Mahfud emphasized that basically there is no paid vaccine. This means that all vaccines are free for the whole community.

“The President has determined that there will be no paid vaccines. All vaccinations are free for the people. From the beginning, that was the policy,” Mahfud tweeted.

Mahfud emphasized that all ideas for paid vaccines arose because of the Covid-19 explosion that came from the delta variant. Since now, the government’s efforts have been to intensify the implementation of vaccination.

Even though the stock of vaccines is safe, medical personnel are limited, which in turn causes queues for vaccinations. The TNI, Polri, and BIN even had to intervene to train vaccinators to speed up the vaccination program.

“But there are still many who are not served. Many have queued but cannot be served because there are so many,” he said.

Seeing this phenomenon, Mahfud said an idea emerged from the private sector that would buy vaccines for its employees. This idea, he said, was so that industries and various essential sectors could work without fear.

“The implementation does not use the state budget and government vaccines. However, there has been a strong rejection reaction. Accommodating this aspiration, the President has banned paid vaccination programs,” he said.
