Magdalena Department Achieves Record Vaccination Coverage Under ‘Médico en Tu Casa’ Program

*Mass vaccination was carried out in a total of 119 points where more than 3 thousand doses were applied, thus guaranteeing the right to health of the target population. These strategies were greatly strengthened in the Carlos Caicedo period through the flagship program ‘Médico en Tu Casa’.

The Government of Change continues to facilitate access to health for the inhabitants of the Department, after the Ministry of Health established all the logistical and service conditions so that the people of Magdalen could catch up on the first national day of vaccination against pre-pandemic diseases of the 2024, a continuity to the policies of former governor Carlos Caicedo to guarantee this fundamental right through the Health Revolution and ‘Doctor in your House’.

In this way, the administration of Rafael Martínez delivered to the population during the immunization day, called ‘The day has arrived to catch up, continuing the recovery of pre-pandemic coverage’, with which the Ministry of Health and Social Protection proposed to identify, search and reduce the susceptible and pending population to update its regular scheme, including the Covid-19 vaccine.

For these objectives, the Departmental Health Secretariat established 42 intramural vaccination points (or from hospitals, centers and health posts) and 77 extramural ones, in each of the 29 municipalities of Magdalena, as part of the decentralized care offer of the ‘Doctor in your House’ program, a legacy of former Governor Caicedo and continued by Governor Martínez, so that the people of Magdalen came to apply their biologicals from the permanent scheme and against respiratory or pre-pandemic diseases (Covid-19 and Influenza), among other pathologies.

The approximate amount was 4,200 doses, of which 3,088 were supplied. The remaining vaccines will continue to be administered until January 31, when the final balance of this extensive day will be delivered.

In this regard, the Secretary of Health, Xiomara Ramos, reiterated: “The event was developed within the framework of the Doctor in your Home program. We provide managerial, professional and technical support to the human talent that makes up this strategy initiated by former Governor Caicedo and continued by Governor Martínez in 88 micro-territories, achieving 100% coverage after applying a total of 3,088 doses, which immunized the population, in especially, the student community in the face of a safe return to school.”

Likewise, last Saturday’s vaccination day was aimed at pregnant women; women of childbearing age from 10 to 49 years; population susceptible to yellow fever; and population susceptible to Covid-19.

While, with respect to Influenza, Departmental Health indicated that the application of this vaccine was focused on people from the age of 50, taking into account that at that age the probability of undiagnosed comorbidities increases.

Finally, it is worth remembering that guarantees of access to health was one of the institutional offers with which the outgoing Governor Caicedo reduced the Multimodal Poverty Index (MPI) in Magdalena, a line that will continue in the four-year term of President Rafael Martínez.
