Macron opposed foreign military presence in Libya

French President Emmanuel Macron believes that the presence of Syrian and other foreign military forces in Libya is unacceptable and should be withdrawn from there. This is stated in the speech of the French leader, which will be delivered at the international conference on Libya in Berlin.

It is known that in Libya there are 35 Turkish military and about 1 thousand soldiers of the Syrian armed opposition. The UN must negotiate a ceasefire in Libya without any preconditions on both sides of the conflict, Mr. Macron will say in his speech (Reuters reviewed it).

The speech does not mention either the offensive on the Tripoli by the Libyan National Army under the command of Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, or about problems with oil production.

Earlier it was reported that the participants in the Libya summit in Berlin will call on the parties to the conflict to abandon military operations against oil facilities. This was stated in the draft final communiqué. In the document, the Libyan National Oil Corporation is recognized as the only legal entity authorized to sell Libyan oil.

January 13, Moscow tried to achieve a settlement of the conflict in Libya, which lasts nine years. As stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, following a meeting in the capital, representatives of the Libyan Government of National Accord signed an armistice agreement. Mr. Haftar left Moscow without signing a document.

Details are in the publication of Kommersant Haftar Zhzhot.
