POLÉMIQUE – The lawyer of the rebellious France retweeted a message resuming songs of strikers in Caen, launching to Emmanuel Macron that they could “start again” the beheading of Louis XVI. Invited this Sunday evening on LCI, Jean-Luc Mélenchon defended the former spokesperson for the movement and “the roots of the French Revolution of 1789 in the minds of the French people”.

A reference to the History of France which goes wrong. Raquel Garrido, a former spokesperson for France Insoumise, relayed a threatening message against Emmanuel Macron on Saturday. A message that widely reacted, the lawyer attracting the wrath of many Internet users, supporters of the Republic on the march (LaREM) in mind. Jean-Luc Mélenchon, for his part, wanted to support him, evoking a simple historical reference.
This Saturday, the account “Caen Yellow Vests” relayed a photo of the Norman mobilization by citing the songs taken up that day by the demonstrators. Namely: “Louis XVI, Louis XVI, we beheaded him, Macron, Macron, we can start again …” Raquel Garrido took it over with a comment: “In anticipation of the strike of January 21 . “

“I think you have to read the history of France”
Quickly, this comment was the subject of bursts of criticism, some accusing Raquel Garrido of relaying death threats. The latter was explained in a new tweet: “I think you have to reread the History of France,” she replied to a student who accused her of inciting hatred. “The death of Louis XVI is precisely an act of the founding of the Republic. Admit that the presidential monarchy is incompatible with the Republic.”

Invited by LCI this Sunday evening, the leader of the Insoumis insisted on supporting him. “Raquel Garrido reproduced images where we see demonstrators, in reference to the strike of January 21. Why? Because it is the day of the death of King Louis XVI,” said Jean-Luc Mélenchon. “And it turns out that Raquel Garrido, like Alexis Corbière and a few others, does a retrospective of the Revolution every year. (…) What strikes me, like her, is the roots of the French Revolution of 1789 in the minds of the French people. This revolution opened the modern era, it is present in our people. ”
