After Gérald Darmanin, Minister of the Interior, Olivier Véran, Minister of Health, Barbara Pompili, Minister of Ecological Transition, Julien Denormandie, Minister of Agriculture and Food, the farmers and the parents of students, the controversy around the meatless menu imposed by the municipality of Lyon, goes back to the highest peak in the state.
Visiting a farm north of Dijon (Côte-d’Or) this Tuesday 23 February 2021 to discuss the problems of the agricultural world, Emmanuel Macron indirectly commented on the decision of the mayor of Lyon Gregory Doucet to impose a unique menu without meat in school canteens from this week and at least until the Easter holidays.
A complete feeding model
A decision which arouses an outcry on the right and within the government – it denounces an “ideological” measure – and which ended up dividing the majority itself.
In this hot context, the President of the Republic wished to reassure farmers by advocating “a complete food model” and appealing to “common sense” of all.
It takes everything. Put in legumes, also have quality meat, stay in a complete feeding model (…) We waste a lot of time in silly divisions.
“Change cannot happen overnight. We are collectively engaged in a very great transition “which will not be able to be done” on the basis of invectives, prohibitions “and” demagoguery “, added the Head of State.
A note of Matignon
This morning on RTL, Julien Denormandie for his part described as “shame” the decision of the mayor of Lyon, while denouncing “an ecology of the inter-self”.
For his part, the Prime Minister Jean Castex had called his ministers to order on Monday evening through his chief of staff.
According to information from Politico Europe, the note stated: “The less we feed into self-supporting controversies, the better off we are.” It obviously did not reach the Ministry of Agriculture.
So, end of recess?
