[비즈니스포스트] LS Mtron will build a new orbital factory in Wanju and invest 50 billion won by 2026.

LS Mtron announced on the 25th that it signed an investment agreement with Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province to build a new orbital factory.

Track refers to the track facilities, tracked vehicles, and related transportation systems required to transport people or cargo.

This agreement ceremony was attended by Jeonbuk Governor Kim Kwan-young, Gunsan Mayor Kang Im-jun, Wanju County Mayor Yoo Hee-tae, Wanju Techno Valley CEO Choi Choong-sik, and LS Mtron Special Business Department Director Choi Young-cheol. Representatives and officials of SeAH Steel and GL Chem, which signed an investment agreement with Jeonbuk Province, also participated.

LS Mtron will build a new orbital production plant on a 37,628㎡ site in the Wanju Techno 2 Valley industrial complex and invest approximately 50 billion won by 2026.

LS Mtron is focusing on strengthening track productivity by separating the defense industry (orbit) from the existing Jeonju plant.

The new factory is 4km away from the existing factory. This means that it is close enough to utilize existing infrastructure. It is expected that production efficiency will be improved as major partners are located in the same industrial complex.

LS Mtron started its military track business in 1974. It has exclusively supplied tanks, armored vehicles, and self-propelled artillery tracks to the Ministry of National Defense for more than 50 years. Among global orbital companies, it is the only one that has the capability to build all American-, Russian-, and Korean-type orbitals. We are exporting tracks to over 40 countries around the world, including the United States, Poland, and Spain.

Choi Young-cheol, head of LS Mcro’s division, said, “It is an important time to respond quickly as the defense industry continues to grow. We will use the agreement as a stepping stone to strengthen orbital productivity and promote the excellence of ‘K-Defense Industry’ to the world.” Reporter Na Byeong-hyeon
