LPGA: A Canadian among the leaders in Michigan

Canada’s Alena Sharp and her Australian teammate Sarah Kemp hold a spot in the top three after two rounds at the Dow Great Lakes Bay LPGA Invitational Team Tournament on Thursday in Midland, Michigan.

This second round was played in the “two-ball-best-ball” format, which was to the advantage of Sharp and Kemp, who had to settle for a card of 69 (-1) the day before. This time they played 61 (-9), which was tied for the second best score on Thursday.

The pair thus recorded nine birdies and positioned themselves in third place, with a cumulative of 130 shots (-10). The duo of Pauline Roussin of France and Dewi Weber of the Netherlands dominates the competition after two rounds, by virtue of their score of -14. They are three shots ahead of their closest pursuers, Americans Jennifer Kupcho and Lizette Salas.

Quebecer Maude-Aimée Leblanc is still in the game with Sarah Schmelzel, from the United States. They gave up a card of 62 (-8), which is a nice reaction after going over par by one point the day before.

Canadian Maddie Szeryk (-7), with Kristy McPherson, also avoided the ax and like Leblanc, ranks 16th. The Ontarian Savannah Grewal (-4) and the American Annabelle Pancake were not so lucky, they who will not participate in the rounds of the weekend.
