MADRID, 21 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The former commander of the extinct Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) and president of the Comunes Party – the political branch of the guerrilla –, Rodrigo Londoño, alias ‘Timochenko’, has called on the National Liberation Army (ELN) not to waste opportunities to “achieve peace.”

These statements by the former guerrilla leader come after the ELN has announced the “freezing” of the dialogues with the Government of Colombia due to alleged violations of the agreement agreed between the parties and until the Executive “is prepared to comply with what was agreed.” .

«This is a historic moment in which we have a great opportunity to move towards complete peace and we cannot miss this opportunity. These are very complex times, we have experienced negotiations at different times and we know how complex that is,” added Londono.

However, ‘Timochenko’ has acknowledged that the ELN’s decision falls within the normal framework of a negotiation process, although he has urged to prevent this situation from becoming an “obstacle” to the peace process, according to information collected. by the Colombian station RCN Radio.

“And that is why it is very important that the actions, that those who are involved, have all the peace of mind to resolve the crises based on a common interest, which is peace, complete peace,” added the former commander of the FARC, who reached an agreement to end the armed conflict in 2016.

Thus, Londoño has called for calm to both the State authorities and the ELN guerrillas and has urged them to take advantage of what he considers to be “a historic moment” that facilitates a rapprochement that “who knows if it will become to present”.

The Colombian Government is in different phases of talks with both the ELN and the dissident Central General Staff (EMC) of the FARC, in which both have promised to end kidnappings and have led to humanitarian relief in the communities. most affected.
