Hospitals also noted a decrease in nursing wards, where there are fewer sick patients. There are 898 patients infected with the corona virus, 7 fewer than on Wednesday. This number has fluctuated considerably over the past week.
The LCPS reports 150 new admissions to nursing wards, slightly more than the 133 from a day earlier. 11 new recordings were reported on the ICs.
64,602 positive corona tests were registered between Wednesday morning and Thursday morning. That is one of the highest numbers ever. Twice before there were about 65,000 positive tests.
Positive tests
Although the infection rates have never been as high as in recent weeks, little of this is reflected in hospitals. Although the omicron variant of the coronavirus that is now circulating is much more contagious than the delta variant that was dominant before, it generally makes people less sick. The number of admissions is between 40 and 60 percent lower. According to preliminary studies, those who do have to be admitted run about half the risk of ending up in the ICU.
The LCPS and the cabinet do foresee that the number of admissions may increase. The LCPS figures also include people who test positive for the coronavirus, but were included in the first place for a different reason. They too must be cared for in isolation from others. The LCPS estimates that this is a small minority.
It is not known how many infections have actually been confirmed. There has been a major backlog for more than a week in reporting the results to the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM). On Wednesday, the counter stood at 78,000 missed results in a period of 9 days. Since Thursday, RIVM no longer provides an update every day.

In the past seven days, RIVM registered 411,156 positive tests. For the first time since the start of the corona crisis, that weekly total exceeds 400,000. But with the unregistered positive tests added, the actual number of cases is likely to be close to half a million.
The number of reports of deaths is creeping up very slowly. In the past day, RIVM received a message that fourteen people have died as a result of their infection. 67 deaths were recorded in the past seven days, the highest level in nearly two weeks.
