FDP wants to use Schäck as the top candidate

Bremen (dpa / lni) – About a year before the next state elections in Bremen, the FDP re-elected its state chairman Thore Schäck at a party conference. He should also run for the Liberals as the top candidate in the 2023 general election, as a spokeswoman for the party said. The entrepreneur, who has led the state FDP since 2020 and is also a member of the Bremen Parliament, received 59 of the 60 delegate votes. His deputies Bettina Schiller and Volker Redder were also re-elected on Saturday.

Nevertheless, the liberals in the smallest federal state are in a state of upheaval. The parliamentary group leader and top candidate for the 2019 election, Lencke Wischhusen, announced that he did not want to run again in spring 2023. The FDP is in the opposition in Bremen. After the 2019 general election, there were discussions between the CDU, Greens and FDP about a possible government formation. But then the SPD succeeded in forging an alliance with the Greens and the Left Party.

The FDP also dealt with school politics at the party congress. Bremen’s schools should be given greater freedom to achieve the binding educational goals on their own, according to an application. Measures must also be taken now to avert the impending shortage of teachers in the future.
